The Union also provides members with direct benefits and entitlements as a result of financial membership. A range of benefits to members and/or their families are as follows.

  • The levying of a payment of $15.00 per member (currently $22,000) paid to the member's nominated beneficiary on the death of a member.
  • The payment of $2,000 funeral benefit to the member's nominated beneficiary or spouse on the death of a member.
  • The payment of $2,000 funeral benefit to the serving member on the death of a spouse.
  • The payment of $2,000 funeral benefit to a "retired member" nominated beneficiary or spouse on the death of a "retired member".
  • The Union provides to its members a first free legal consultation on "any" matter in an arrangement with law firm Gibson & Gibson.
  • All referrals for legal assistance as a consequence of a disciplinary or industrial matter must be made through the Union Office for approval to ensure authorisation.
  • Members are also provided with assistance, advice and representation on internal disciplinary charges as well as representation before Disciplinary Appeal Tribunal Hearings.
  • The Union provides through an election process a representative on the Disciplinary Appeal Tribunal.
  • The Union provides and members can apply for (by ballot in the first instance) holiday home located in Dunsborough.
  • The Union through its affiliation with Unions WA provides an opportunity for discount purchase through "ShopRite" for members on a range of goods and services including insurance, loans, cars and electrical goods.
  • A once yearly ballot is conducted for 30 Educational Scholarships to the value of $200.00 to assist members with costs associated with the purchase of books etc for children at school.
  • The Union provides a number of alternative contacts for advice and enquiry regarding financial and investment services including United Credit Union and Members Equity Super Members Home Loans.
  • Union referrals to the various financial organisations are provided to give members an opportunity of a variety of choices, however the Union takes no responsibility in regard to member's arrangements in this area.
  • A Diary is published each year and distributed to members.
  • Newly introduced is a Membership Card that when used with the Westclub Discount Guide enclosed, offers great discounts at restaurants, cafés, hotels and a range of leisure pursuits.
  • The Union was instrumental in assisting to set up the Retired Prison Officers Association (application and yearly fee) that provides Officers on retirement or resignation an opportunity not only to maintain contact and socialise, but to also be able to maintain a number of the benefits currently provided by the Union.
